I’m definitely all about the magic coming naturally and intuitively, not following “rules.” That said, I do garner wisdom from different spiritual leaders who I trust. And sometimes- not always- I give their “rules” a try.
I can relate to this. I admitted to my sister recently that I would go online to see if anyone else had done their practice the way I "felt led" to do it. I was met with all the rules and essentially got lost in the motions, shrinking into what was acceptable. Felt like I was doing myself a disservice. We don't need permission from anyone. Trust the inner guidance
And if following the books or the old ways makes someone else feel connected and safe, that’s just as valid, because we are all on our own individual paths.
This is so true, it's exhausting when everyone always insists their way is the "correct way" to do things. There's so many different ways to do the same thing and arrive at the same outcome.

Yesss, I absolutely agree.
Connected and safe.
I found my answer in your lines.
